Isaiah 28-30

Isaiah continues his prophecies of destruction of Israel and Judah....

Isreal / Samaria is compared to drunkards. Isaiah is mocked by "Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions. 8 All the tables are covered with vomit and there is not a spot without filth." for his teaching, ...
13 So then, the word of the LORD to them will become: Do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule; a little here, a little there-- so that they will go and fall backward, be injured and snared and captured.

Ariel, is another name for Jerusalem. Jerusalem/Judah also comes under criticism.

As Assyria frows from strength, both Israel contemplate their military options, the major one is to ally themselves with Egypt. But Isaiah's prophecy is for this strategy to fail.:
Chapter 30
1 "Woe to the obstinate children," declares the LORD, "to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; 2 who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge. 3 But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame, Egypt's shade will bring you disgrace. 4 Though they have officials in Zoan and their envoys have arrived in Hanes, 5 everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them, who bring neither help nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace."

What is a plumb line?
I read this in Amos 7:8"

And the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Amos? ” “A plumb line, ” I replied. Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer."

What does this phrase means?
"Do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule; a little here, a little there"

Apparently it's just sounds??

Plumb line si the string and weight that you use to take vertical alignment measurements...(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plumb-bob)

I thing those phrases, are just poetic expressions to refer to the nagging that the mockers accuse Isaiah of...they say his prophecies are like nagging (rule rule rule rule do do do do abit here abit there....) ....but Isaiah says in that case God will 'nag' them until they fall down! hehheh
