The story of Jonah, brings this pathetic figure into God's plan to save Nineveh (near Mosul, Iraq). He heads towards the port of Joppa (Jaffa, central palestine) and heads on towards Tarsus (Turkey). A lot of traveling which doesn't allow him to run any farther from God.
Jonah's story contrasts a judgemental unforgiving attitude of a human Jonah and a gracious forgiving God who goes out of his way to save.
