Job 6-9

Job defends against Eliphaz the Temanite, and then fends off another self righteous attack by Bildad the Shuhite. It just keeps getting worse for Job, and the relationship between 'friends' becomes increasingly frayed.

As I read, I am reminded of all the prosperity gospel proponents who claim that somehow it is our right to be blessed, and the implication that if we are not, then we are somehow deficient in our faith. Kinda like what Bildad was pronouncing:
"Surely God does not reject a blameless man or strengthen the hands of evildoers. 21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. 22 Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more."
But not only them, how often when we see a brother or sister come into hard times, somewhere inside us there is that self righteous whisper that it is somehow related to sin or some personal deficiency. *sigh*

May God forgive the Bildads in us.
