Moses continues, and reminds the Israelites of YHWH's commandments, and the need to be separate from the Canaanites.
32 So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
I cant help but be impressed by YHWH's intense hatred for the Canaanites, and His determination to wipe them out.
7:2 and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.
7:16 You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God gives over to you. Do not look on them with pity ...
7:23 But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great confusion until they are destroyed. 24 He will give their kings into your hand, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand up against you; you will destroy them.
Yet in the midst of all these, it cannot be more clear that the relationship between YHWH and His people Israel, is one basedon love. In these 3 chapters, the word "love" appears not less than 8 times.
Wistfully, YHWH says in Chapter 5: "I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good. 29 Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!

So the Jews took 6:6-9 literally - they tie phylacteries (or teffilin) to their foreheads and arms.

They also hang mezuzah on their doorpost.
